Somewhere beyond the shoreline, the water changes.

Bombora lives out there.

Cool ozone and crisp air roll in first, followed by mineral-rich sea salt and fresh eucalyptus. A touch of freesia softens the edges, while earthy moss gives the fragrance just enough depth to keep things interesting.

It smells like the coast when the sky turns silver and the wind begins to pick up, the windows are open, a storm might be coming, and suddenly the whole house feels different.

A little wild. A little windswept. Exactly how we like it.

FROM THE BOTANICAL ARCHIVE

George Shaw spent his life cataloguing a natural world that still had plenty of surprises left in it.

An English physician turned naturalist, Shaw helped introduce European readers to extraordinary species arriving from faraway places. His ambitious The Naturalist's Miscellany, published from 1789 to 1813, paired descriptions of the natural world with beautifully detailed illustrations, including the fiery Pinnated Gorgonia featured on Bombora.

But here's where Shaw's story gets especially good.

When one of the first preserved platypus specimens reached England, the animal looked so improbable that Shaw reportedly checked it for stitches, wondering whether someone had attached a duck-like bill to the body of another animal.

He eventually concluded it was real.

Nature: 1. George Shaw: 0.

More than two centuries later, another curiosity from Shaw's remarkable natural world has made its way out of the archive and onto Bombora.

We suspect he'd approve.

WHEN THE CANDLE IS GONE...

Please don't throw away the pretty part.

Clean out your Bombora vessel and give it something new to do. Pens and pencils on your desk. Makeup brushes on the vanity. Paintbrushes in the studio. Garden markers on the potting bench. A few stems clipped from the garden. Or all those little things that somehow never seem to have a proper home.

And if its next great adventure is simply sitting on a shelf looking fabulous?

We fully support that too.

We gave the artwork another life. Now it's your turn.

Candle Care + Safety

Candle Care

A beautiful candle deserves a little care. Give it time to warm, let the fragrance unfold, and follow these simple tips to enjoy the best possible burn from first light to last.

Choose the Right Space

Candle size makes a difference. For the fullest fragrance experience, choose a candle that feels right for the room.

8 oz · 2-Wick · Up to 55 Hours

A lovely fit for smaller spaces like bedrooms, offices, bathrooms, entryways, and cozy sitting areas.

11 oz · 2-Wick · Up to 75 Hours

Best suited for medium to larger spaces such as living rooms, kitchens, dining
rooms, primary bedrooms, and moderately open gathering spaces. Keep in mind that ceiling height, airflow, open doorways, and room layout can all influence how fragrance travels.

Give the Wax Time to Melt

Soy-based wax likes to take its time. For each burn, especially the first, allow the wax to melt evenly across the surface of the candle. A full melt pool will generally take 3–4 hours to develop.

As the wax warms and reaches the edges of the vessel, the fragrance begins to open more fully into the room. You may also notice the scent becoming richer and more expressive with each burn.

With soy-based candles, fragrance is meant to build rather than arrive all at once. Give it a little time and let the scent settle naturally into your space.

About Our Wax + Fragrance Experience

Our candles are made with a premium soy-based wax blend chosen for its slow, beautiful burn and refined fragrance experience.

We intentionally favor soy-forward wax rather than relying on a traditional paraffin-forward formulation. Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum, while soy wax begins with plant-based soybean oil. For us, a soy-based blend simply feels more aligned with the thoughtful, botanical nature of Franklin & Myrtle. That choice also changes the way fragrance behaves.

Paraffin is very effective at releasing fragrance quickly and can create a more immediate, powerful scent presence. Soy-based wax tends to warm more gradually, allowing the fragrance to build as the melt pool develops.

Once the wax has fully melted across the surface, the fragrance begins to open more completely. You may also find that the scent deepens and becomes more expressive over subsequent burns.

Our candles are not designed to overwhelm a room the moment they are lit. They are meant to be unfolded to become part of the room rather than take over.

Some fragrances will naturally be bolder than others, and things like room size, ceiling height, airflow, temperature, and candle placement can all affect how strongly a scent is experienced.

For the best results, give your candle time to warm, allow the melt pool to fully develop, and enjoy it in a space that suits its size.

Trim Before You Light

Before each burn, trim both wicks to approximately ¼ inch. A properly trimmed wick helps keep the flame steady, encourages a cleaner burn, and reduces soot and mushrooming.

And before lighting, take a quick look at the wax and remove any wick trimmings, matches, or other debris.

Know When to Call It a Night

Enjoy your candle for no more than 4 hours at a time. When you're finished, extinguish the flame and let the wax
and vessel cool completely before trimming the wicks and lighting again.

As hard as it can be to say goodbye to a favorite candle, stop burning when approximately ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.

Make Candle Care Part of the Ritual

A few simple tools make it easier to care for your candle properly from the first burn to the last.

Our Candle Care Kit, available for purchase separately, includes the essentials for trimming, extinguishing, and maintaining your candle between burns, helping you enjoy a cleaner, more
consistent burn and get the most from every candle.

Give the Vessel a Second Life

When the final flame is gone, the vessel doesn’t have to be. Once your candle is completely finished and the remaining
wax and wick hardware have been removed, clean the vessel thoroughly and reuse it in a way that suits your home. It can become a holder for brushes, matches, pens, small botanicals, or other everyday pieces, or simply a beautiful little catchall.

If reuse isn’t practical, recycle the vessel where local glass-recycling guidelines allow.

Candle Safety

A few simple precautions help keep every burn a safe one.

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Never burn a candle while sleeping or use one as nightlight.
  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
  • Always place your candle on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface.
  • Keep burning candles away from curtains, paper, books, clothing, bedding, dried botanicals, and anything else that could catch fire.
  • Keep candles away from drafts, ceiling fans, vents, and open windows.
  • Never move or handle a candle while it is burning or while the wax is still liquid. The vessel may become hot.
  • Keep burning candles safely separated from one another.
  • If the flame becomes unusually high, begin smoking, or flickers excessively, extinguish the candle and let it cool before trimming the wick and relighting.
  • Never use water to extinguish a candle.
  • Make sure the flame is completely out before leaving the room.
  • Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Stop burning when approximately ½ inch of wax remains.
Our Impact

We believe what we create should leave more than a beautiful
impression. That means making thoughtful choices about what we use, what we waste, and what we give back. From recyclable and reusable materials to vessels designed for a life beyond the final burn, we’re committed to doing better as we grow.

And through the Root + Bloom Project, a portion of every Franklin & Myrtle sale supports organizations working to preserve, restore, and cultivate the gardens and green spaces that make our communities more beautiful.

What begins with a candle can grow into something more.
